Forest Farm, a centre for adults with Cerebral Palsy, held its annual holiday programme that covered fun sports including water slides.
Jenny Taylor, the holiday coordinator, said: “This year we used the 2010 Fifa World Cup draw as the theme and chose four countries and a sport for each.”

“The countries we chose were America, Greece, Germany and South Africa and the sports were basketball, Greek dancing, archery and soccer.”

Various homes for people with disabilities, including Aim Centre, Bona Le Sedi, Cresset House, Logwood Village, San Salvador, Avalon, St Giles, The Hamlet, Reea, Novalis, Cluny Farm and Woodside, participated in the programme. Juan Spies of South African National Archery Association was a volunteer who gave some tips on archery.

“Archery is especially good in working the hand and eye co-ordination.”

Spies gave the Chronicle a quick lesson on holding the very heavy bow, placing the arrow and shooting.

Taylor said the programme was in its eighth year and was a fun way to bring everyone together.

“The emphasis is on fun. When you are at school only the best get to play sport. But today everyone had the chance.”
