Lucia WalkerMarlboro sports stadium will soon include Bushido kickboxing rendezvous for students of this well known martial art.
Instructors Duncan Arthur and Chris de Nysschen have been kickboxing for years and have a background in karate.
They will now offer kickboxing classes at their second dojo at Marlboro stadium, their first being in Pretoria East. A set date for classes has not yet been confirmed but the men are looking towards the first week of February to open doors.
They have chosen the stadium because they are looking at growing the art and enticing people from a number of communities surrounding Marlboro, including Alexandra.
“Although we teach kickboxing, what the pupils will learn has an application derived from a wider martial arts background. We’re going to stress participation in tournaments. What they learn here will help them in any real fighting situation,” said Arthur.
The school will be affiliated to the World Organisation of Kickboxing Associations, the South African Amateur Kickboxing Association, The World Union of Martial Artists and the International Sports Fighting Organisation. Pupils who do well enough will be eligible to receive provincial and national colours for kickboxing.
“You don’t need any equipment to begin. Just show up in sports shoes, a t-shirt and tracksuit pants and you’re are on your way to learning things about yourself that will fascinate you, while you get fit and have fun,” said de Nysschen.
People from the age of six are welcome.
