If you’re fed up with potholes that don’t get fixed, water leaks that never stop and street lights that won’t work, salvation may be at hand. At least in Ward 90.
Starting from 1 February, the ward will be running a 12-month ‘Let’s fix it campaign’ with the aim of improving service delivery in the ward. Each month will be dedicated to a specific problem.
And the first step in getting this campaign under way is to report service delivery failures.
While residents might groan at the thought of listening to elevator music while on hold for Joburg Connect call centre, Ward 90 councillor Gordon Mackay insists this is a necessary step.
“The more times a problem gets reported, the higher it moves up the list of priorities and the greater the chance city council will address it sooner.”
He asks Ward 90 residents to report problems either via the Joburg Connect call centre (011-375-5555) or the City of Joburg’s e-services (www.joburg.org.za).
Residents can send the reference number to an e-mail (letsfixit@ymail.com) set up specifically to deal with these issues.
Mackay and his committee will then follow up on the complaints once they have been reported.
“It is fundamentally important that residents send out a clear and unambiguous message that they will no longer tolerate declining service levels,” Mackay concluded.
Ward 90 includes the suburbs of Craighall, Craighall Park, Hyde Park, western Illovo, Dunkeld, Clynton, Riepen Park, Dunkeld West, Parktown North, Rosebank, Parkmore, Sandhurst and Hurlingham,
