Natasha BezuidenhoutBafana Bafana will definitely train at Sandown high school during the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
Although the deal is yet to be signed, the Chronicle can confirm that management of the school and the South Africa Football Association (Safa) could put pen to paper any day now.
This is according to Oupa Keele, chairman of the school governing body, who said an agreement had been reached with the football body.
The national football side will be staying at Grayston Southern Sun and need the school’s grounds for practice.
A contract was originally expected to be signed on Friday last week as reported in the last edition. Keele said although they hadn’t signed a contract as yet, an agreement in principle had been made.
“There were some concerns tabled during a meeting last week. Some of the issues could not be rectified then but I am sure a contract will be signed this week,” said Keele.
“We are very happy. The school will be left a legacy.”
Keele said that facilities on the school grounds would be upgraded with new grass, a perimeter fence, and a grandstand for 200 journalists as well as pitches that met with Fifa standards.
“The ball is in Safa’s court now,” said Keele.
