Sandton’s Lance Ceronio is the last man standing

Extreme  Fighting  Championship (EFC) Africa 02 lived up to the hype, hitting the high-water mark set by its inaugural instalment and carrying on straight into the stratosphere to rain down a monsoon of premier mixed martial arts action at the Coca Cola Dome.

One of the highlights of the night was the light heavyweight bout between Sandton’s Lance Ceronio and Chett ‘The Threat’ Meyer.
From the outset, Meyer was incredibly aggressive, steamrolling forward with a barrage of punches. His massive left hand harpooned into Ceronio’s chest and pinned him to the cage, while his right hand sought targets.
Even when Ceronio seemed to make some progress and had Meyer on the ground, he received a solid heel to the face. At the end of round one Ceronio was seconds from disaster due to a punishing joint lock, but was saved by the bell.
In round two Ceronio came back and threw heavy punches and held on to a kimura arm lock for dear life, but even this didn’t stop Meyer, who gave as good as he got.
Unfortunately, Meyer’s fitness just wasn’t there and when the bell sounded, he dropped like a log and his cornermen had to hoist him back up.
Ceronio hardly looked any better, but both came out swinging in round three, and Ceronio suffered a massive cut to the left side of his head. Despite the blood making it hard to get a grip on his opponent, Ceronio secured a guillotine choke hold on Meyer, who was forced to tap out.
When asked about the ordeal, Ceronio simply replied, “Yeah Chett hit pretty hard, but I have a pretty hard head.”
