Old Mutual staff plays ball for poor and needy children

Old Mutual Group has united on the football pitch to raise funds for the Umthombo Street Children project.Teams from Old Mutual South Africa, Nedbank and Mutual & Federal are running qualifying tournaments across the country to raise money for the charity and bring key parts of their business together in the process. The tournament will see Old Mutual football teams from around the world and South Africa’s provinces play each other to qualify for a place in the finals to be held at Old Mutual’s head office in Cape Town on 8 May.
“We’re raising money for Umthombo to help reintegrate street children back into their homes and change society’s view of these vulnerable children,” said Old Mutual’s Julie Hutchins.
Staff has united to raise R100 000 to help set up and train a team of former street children to become specialised football coaches.
“They will use the power of football to engage street children in constructive activities and draw them in to education and therapeutic programmes, with the ultimate objective of integrating them into family units.”
“It’s about using football to unite our people, break down barriers and enable networking and conversations to take place, so that our people can achieve great things together.”
There are 12 qualifying squads from Old Mutual South Africa, Nedbank, Mutual & Federal, the Wealth Management division, the Latin America division, the Nordic countries, the European Retail team, Old Mutual United States and Old Mutual London.
