Hyde Park high school is the proud host of team Slovenia during the 2010 Fifa World Cup™.
Since the school was selected by the Slovenians and Fifa as the official base camp for the touring side, phenomenal developments have happened at the school. An overall investment of about R4 million has seen it become a world class facility.
The development of a new floodlit field, change rooms and general upgrades associated with the requirements of the Slovenian side, has been a welcome gift for the school which plans to introduce night sports events and festivals.
The interactions with the management crew of Slovenia and Fifa has allowed the school and its community to share in and benefit immensely. As a result of the World Cup, Hyde Park is able to boast some of the best facilities.

Morningside resident and Redhill Grade 9 pupil Raoul Hyman in his CRG kart won round one of the Engen Supakarts Regional in Vereeniging. Hyman drives a CRG for the Ed Murray Racing Team and put in a fine performance to claim victory in round one.

The reigning Mini Max SA national champion showed he was able to make the transition up to the faster Junior Rok Class by taking overall honours with a second in Heat 1, a first in Heat 2, and a first in the final.
Hyman had to recover after his kart’s axle failure in the qualifying round, which sidelined him after two laps and placed him sixth on the grid.
He produced an inspired drive to finish second in Heat 1.
Heat 2 was a ding-dong battle for him. The final round produced an exciting race, with Hyman coming out in front followed by Jordan Pepper.

For the fifth year running Investec’s Promaths education programme has shown that extra tuition coupled with diligence achieves enormous results.

Investec held an awards ceremony in Sandton where it handed over R870 000 towards bursaries for those who excelled in the programme.

Promaths is aimed at Grade 10 to 12 pupils from 40 schools in and around Soweto who excel in maths, science and accounting.

In 2005 the programme heralded three distinctions and 40 passes while this year there were an overall 68 distinctions and 175 passes in the three subjects.

Investec deputy chairman David Lawrence said the country desperately needed skills.

“The number of matric passes is not high enough. There are no results without effort, time and dedication. Students are left in jobs they don’t wish to be in because of poor passes.”

Investec’s aim is to increase the number of pupils with matric exemptions

“To the graduates, you have the world in front of you and there are still challenging times ahead,” said Lawrence.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-1910" title=" Genius...
Michael Tshabalala, the overall top achiever with distinctions in maths, science and accounting walked away with four awards, tuition money and a laptop with printer.

“It has been a journey for me, but the journey continues. Thanks to my parents for their support and to Investec for making my dreams a reality.”
